Vice President Jessica Alupo has called upon the clergy to mobilize their parishioners to embrace government initiatives aimed at increasing household income.
She emphasized that religious leaders, due to their regular interaction with believers, are well-positioned to promote pro-poor programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, GROW, Youth Livelihood, and UWEP. Alupo made the appeal during a Palm Sunday mass at the Our Lady of Snows Virika Cathedral in Fort Portal, Kabarole district.
She commended the church for its outreach programs, which have improved livelihoods, and appreciated their efforts in setting up projects in various sectors. The Vice President was accompanied by Minister for Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello.
The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Robert Muhirwa, expressed gratitude for Alupo's visit, fulfilling her promise made during the cathedral's re-dedication on March 2. During his homily, Bishop Muhirwa reflected on patience, humility, forgiveness, and trust in God.
He also requested the government to expedite the construction of the Kampala-Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal Road to boost economic development.
