Mt. Lebanon Church Wins Land Dispute Case Against United Methodist Church
In a significant legal victory, the Mt. Lebanon Church in Mukono has emerged triumphant in a long-standing land dispute with the United Methodist Church of Uganda. The case, which has dragged on for over 20 years, has finally been resolved, bringing relief to the members of Mt. Lebanon Church who have been fighting to reclaim their land.
The dispute began when the United Methodist Church allegedly encroached on the land claimed by Mt. Lebanon Church. The legal battle saw multiple court appearances, with the most recent ruling in 2023 favoring Mt. Lebanon Church. The case was presided over by Justice Jacqueline Mwondha of the Mukono High Court, who dismissed the claims made by the United Methodist Church, stating that they lacked sufficient evidence to support their case.
According to the legal representatives of Mt. Lebanon Church, Asuman Matovu and Arafat Majwega of Mugerwa and Partners Advocates and Musangala & Co Advocates and Solicitors, the court found no merit in the claims made by the United Methodist Church. The court ruled that Mt. Lebanon Church has the rightful claim to the land and can now use it as they see fit.
Members of Mt. Lebanon Church expressed their joy and relief at the court's decision, noting that the prolonged legal battle had caused significant anxiety and uncertainty. They thanked God for the favorable outcome and praised Justice Mwondha for her fair and just ruling.
Pr. Lwandasa, a leader at Mt. Lebanon Church, reflected on the challenges faced during the dispute. He noted that while the church was in a vulnerable position, those who sought to claim the land did not relent until they saw the church growing and thriving. He expressed gratitude to God for intervening through the court's decision.
The ruling marks the third time the court has ruled in favor of Mt. Lebanon Church in this dispute. In 2023, the United Methodist Church attempted to reopen the case, but Justice Mwondha dismissed it again due to lack of evidence.
The victory has been celebrated by the congregation, who gathered to pray and thank God for His faithfulness. Pr. Lwandasa and other church leaders led the congregation in prayers, dedicating the land to God and asking for His continued guidance and protection.
This landmark ruling not only resolves a decades-long dispute but also reaffirms the importance of justice and fairness in legal proceedings. The members of Mt. Lebanon Church can now focus on using their land for the growth and development of their community.
