As the country gears up for the general elections next year, the youths who form the majority of Uganda's population have been cautioned to desists from all forms of violence or else they risk being arrested and detained for several electoral charges.
The country witnessed gross electoral violence on Monday as the youth held parish elections where several camps attacked others, and the majority sustained injuries while others still nurse wounds.
In the ongoing NRM primaries, several youth groups are hired to cause mayhem to the rival camps, where lives are lost, vehicles are set on fire, and others end up in prisons
It's on this background that experts have raised a red flag to the youths, urging them to desist from all forms of electoral violence.
Dr. Rogers Kasirye, the executive director of Uganda Youth Development Link, an expert in youths in youth affairs, says the youths should engage in productive activities instead of causing havoc in the electoral processes.
He castigates all forms of violence spearheaded by the different militia groups headed by different youths across the country.
He has advised the youths not to waste their meagre resources in politics, which has become very expensive to sustain.
Many youth contenders are vying for the different elective positions, but reports indicate that some have already started selling off their properties, and others are going for commercial loans to raise campaign funds.
He says those who go through the different levels should serve their fellows instead of being self-seekers.
Several members of parliament have also added their voices to urge the youths to desist from all forms of violence in the upcoming general elections.
