Selling Gov’t Startup Kits Will Lead to Arrests, Warns Lubaga RDC

Lubaga Division, Kampala – The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Lubaga Division, Henry Kitambula, has issued a strict warning to beneficiaries of government-funded startup kits, cautioning that those who sell the items will face arrest and prosecution.

The warning was delivered during a State House-organized event in Kabusu, Lubaga Division, where officials outlined the ongoing Wealth Creation Program

RCC Kitambula praised the program for its role in poverty alleviation but emphasized that misuse will not be tolerated.

"I commend this government program for lifting people out of poverty. But those who sell the items given to them will face legal consequences," he stated.

The initiative, overseen by Jane Barekye from the President’s Office, has supported over 800 youth in Lubaga since its launch. It provides startup kits—including stoves, frying pans, salon equipment, and poultry tools—to small-scale entrepreneurs in trades like chapati making, chips frying, and hairdressing.

Faisal Ndase, the program coordinator, reiterated the warning, stating:

"If beneficiaries sell the items, they will be arrested. We urge them to use the tools responsibly."

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude, crediting the program for transforming their livelihoods. One recipient said:

"This program has lifted us from poverty. We are grateful to the government."

Ndase also announced plans to expand the initiative to Kampala Central, covering areas like Kamwokya and Kisenyi, and encouraged more youth to take advantage of the opportunity
