President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officiated at the pass-out of 1,372 secondary school teachers from Greater Mbarara and Ntungamo regions who completed a patriotism course at Ntare School, Mbarara City.
The training, organized by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC), ran under the theme “Transforming Teachers’ Lives through Patriotism” and aimed at empowering teachers as role models and nation-builders.
In his remarks, the President said patriotism is not about emotion but a foundation for prosperity, stressing the importance of the NRM’s four core principles: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-Economic Transformation, and Democracy.
He encouraged teachers to embrace wealth creation through agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT, while also reassuring them that salary enhancement for arts and artisan teachers would be addressed systematically. He further vowed to tackle corruption in teacher payroll processes.
First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Museveni congratulated the participants, describing teachers as a critical asset in shaping patriotic citizens. NSPC Commissioner Hellen Seku praised the initiative as a response to teachers’ demand to become change agents, while the trainees, represented by Perez Asiimwe, thanked the President for both the training and his commitment to improving their welfare.
