President Museveni Condemns Harmful Clan Marriage Practice

Uganda’s President Museveni condemns intra-clan marriages as dangerous and violating fundamental rights.

Uganda’s President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has strongly condemned intra-clan marriages as a dangerous cultural practice, warning that it endangers unborn children and violates fundamental rights

The condemnation was issued during a meeting at Mengo-Bulange,  launching the  58-billion-shilling complex that will house the offices of Buganda’s 56 clan heads.
President Museveni emphasised that this practice is dangerous to human life and must be eradicated.
He further urged cultural leaders to collaborate with the government in educating communities about this issue.
Tying this to his broader vision, Museveni outlined strategies to address the challenge decisively for lasting success.
During the event, State Minister for Information and Technology Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo praised the President’s commitment to dialogue with cultural leaders and advancing two key initiatives to strengthen Buganda’s heritage.

Alex Kikurwe, representing the royal clan, requested the President to expedite the implementation of pending commitments from their previous meeting in 2024.
Omuttaka Kyadondo Kasirye Mbuga Eramula, speaking on behalf of the clans, thanked President Museveni for fulfilling pledges, including the allocation of 9.7 square miles of land to the clans.
