Kampala, Uganda - President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has endorsed Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative force for Uganda's education system during national celebrations marking Education Day at Kololo Independence Grounds.
 Digital Shift in Vocational Training Â
 The President revealed plans to integrate AI across technical institutes, emphasising its role in modernising traditional vocational skills. "Our youth must master these digital tools to compete globally," Museveni stated, observing students' demonstrations of AI-assisted technical projects. Â
Presidential Initiative Expansion Â
A new AI-focused stream will be added to the Presidential Initiative on Skilling, targeting 15,000 youth annually with hands-on training in machine learning applications for agriculture and manufacturing. Â
Curriculum Overhaul Â
Education Minister Janet Museveni announced immediate reforms: Â
Mandatory AI literacy modules in all technical colleges by 2025, 200 smart classrooms to be established nationwide, Partnership with Huawei to provide AI training kits Â
Global Support Â
Ambassador Jam Sadek pledged international backing, noting: "Uganda's AI adoption strategy aligns with UNESCO's digital education framework. We'll facilitate knowledge exchange with AI-leading nations." Â

Technical schools showcased innovations including: Â
AI-powered soil analysis tools for farmers, Swahili-language chatbots for rural health education, Predictive maintenance systems for industrial equipment Â
Controversy & Concerns Â
While parents welcomed digital progress, some questioned the preparedness of rural schools. "How will Kibaale's woodwork teachers explain algorithms?" asked one concerned guardian. Â
The President assured phased implementation, prioritising urban centres before nationwide rollout. Â
