FDC whip to drag EC for register display malpractice

The FDC whip, also Mawokota South MP, counsel Yusuf Nsibambi, has threatened to drag the EC to the courts of law for a shoddy exercise in the ongoing display of the national voters register ahead of next year's general election.

Nsibambi alleges that some registers in his constituency have been inflated, causing rigging anxiety even before the elections, while others have been fraudulently transferred to other polling stations in other areas, disenfranchising the voters.

More than 620 polling stations countrywide have been excluded in the ongoing voter update exercise, representing about 1.6% of the total number of polling stations across the country.

He has cautioned the EC to be in charge of the exercise as he wants security agencies to refrain from taking over EC roles.

The display exercise began on 25th April and will be concluded on 15th May.

The national register has over 20 million voters, from the 18 million in 2021.
