Police Crack Down On Election-Related Violence In Mubende

The Uganda Police Force is actively addressing incidents of electoral violence reported during the ongoing political campaigns. This statement provides details on recent clashes in Mubende District and the measures taken to restore order. 


At approximately 1600 hours, a violent confrontation erupted at Kyapa Kyeturege Trading Centre between two groups:  
 Supporters of NRM primary candidate Mr. Muhumuza Henry (returning from Kitera Trading Centre)  
 Supporters of NRM primary candidate Hon. Kabanda David (coming from Gwanika Trading Centre)  
Exchange of Gunfire: Resulted in injuries to Gumisiriza Roger, who is currently receiving medical attention.  
Physical Assaults: Multiple individuals were attacked with sticks and bricks.  
Vehicles set ablaze at Nabingola SubCounty Headquarters include a Toyota Noah, a Toyota Wish, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. 
 Mubende Central Police Station (CPS) officers swiftly intervened to contain the violence.  
 Investigations are ongoing, with statements collected from witnesses and participants.  
 Arrests have been made, and suspects will face charges related to electoral violence, malicious damage, and unlawful possession of firearms.
