NUP leader claims Ssetuba Derick Kidnapped

NUP leader Kyagulanyi claims thugs kidnapped NUP supporter Ssetuba Derick

There are circulating reports indicating that the leader of the NUP party, Robert Kyagulanyi, stated that there were thugs who attacked NUP supporter Ssetuba Derick, who intends to contest for the Buyaga East parliamentary seat.

However, these reports are not confirmed, and Ssetuba Derick was not attacked, according to NUP's dissemination of information based on traders in the area. They held a press conference and announced that Ssetuba Derick was accused of theft.

Trader leader Namara stated that he gave Ssetuba Derick UGX 8.48 million at the beginning of this year to bring drums from Kenya. Since then, Ssetuba has not been seen. Namara announced that she and others have been looking for Ssetuba Derick, calling him without a response, leading them to report him to police. He was apprehended in a shop, taken by security personnel, and put in a vehicle - not by drone as NUP leaders claimed to mislead the public about an alleged abduction.

Migisa Christine said she gave Ssetuba Derick UGX 2.98 million in February this year, but since then, Ssetuba has disappeared. Migisa and Namara emphasized that they are trying to see if NUP will release misleading information to implicate the government about their supporter, and they want to know if NUP cares about Ssetuba's repayment or recovery of their money.

Businessman Busobozi Patrick, another trader owed by Ssetuba Derick, gave him UGX 5 million out of UGX 40 million. He had set a deadline for Ssetuba to pay back while looking for him. Reports indicate he was apprehended in a shopping shop, and people ran to break through security as he was taken.

These traders say they have no problem with Ssetuba because even his father knows Dick deals with them, but there's a problem because he sells pipes. They've been with Namara looking for Ssetuba, asking Ssetuba's father to tell his son to repay their money or bring pipes as promised, but they haven't heard back.

The total amount owed by Ssetuba Derick to these traders alone is UGX 16,866,000, though allegedly there are many others he owes. Ssetuba Derick has already campaigned, showing he wants to represent Buyaga East in parliament, awaiting NUP party clearance for their card.

Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy police spokesperson for Kampala and metropolitan operations, has spoken about the Ssetuba Derick case and these traders.
