NRM launches 2026-2031 election campaign with “Protect the Gains” theme and new presidential portrait.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially launched its 2026–2031 election campaign under the theme "Protect the Gains," featuring a new presidential portrait that will dominate campaign materials. The party's top leadership, including First Vice Chairman Alhaji Moses Kigongo, Second Vice Chairperson Rebecca Kadaga, and Office Manager Hadija Namyaalo, presided over the unveiling ceremony at Kyambogo.
Secretary General Richard Todwong outlined the party's vision: "NRM is positioned to fulfill its promises and deliver transformative development for Ugandans in the coming term." The campaign strategy emphasizes preserving national achievements while expanding economic opportunities.
Alhaji Kigongo urged members to maintain discipline during the mobilization period, while Barbra Nekessa Oundo directed party chairs to distribute nomination forms for President Museveni's candidacy.
Some members, like Rogers Mulindwa, questioned the timing of the defensive campaign theme, while supporters from Jinja North praised the party's continuity vision. The portrait rollout signals the start of aggressive mobilization ahead of what many anticipate will be a closely contested election.
This coordinated launch demonstrates NRM's early preparation for 2026 and reflects the party's strategy of emphasizing stability and legacy achievements amid growing political competition. The campaign's success will depend on effectively countering opposition critiques while addressing persistent public concerns about governance and economic challenges.
