NRM launches nationwide village chairperson elections, Namyalo leads mobilisation drive

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially commenced the registration of candidates for village chairperson elections across all sub-counties, in a bid to identify competent and eligible residents to lead their communities.

At the forefront of this mobilisation effort is the Office of the NRM National Chairman, located at Kyambogo, under the leadership of Hadijah Namyalo. The office is spearheading a campaign aimed at ensuring that the NRM secures all village chairperson positions nationwide.

Namyalo, together with staff from the National Chairman's office, convened at Kyambogo to rally Ugandans to turn out in large numbers and register for the elections, encouraging active participation in the local leadership process.

Namyalo has particularly called upon women to step forward and contest, emphasising that the government, through the NRM, has given them the opportunity to fully participate in leadership roles.

The elections are scheduled to take place in 70,1024 villages across the country. Registration for candidates will close on Friday of this week. Thereafter, successful contestants will be granted a campaign period starting from the 20th of this month, running through to the 27th. Voting will then take place on the 28th of this month, when residents will elect their village chairpersons.

Other NRM party members involved in streamlining the electoral process and ensuring the party's victory also gathered at the venue to share their views on the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Office of the National Chairman is also leading a concurrent campaign aimed at combating the spread of mareria fever.

This particular drive will feature a series of events, including a mass walk scheduled for the 20th of this month. The walk is set to commence from Parliament, and will be led by the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, Speaker of Parliament.

Leading the coordination of this initiative, Hadijah Namyalo has called upon all Ugandans to participate in these walks, emphasising that the fight against mareria is a collective responsibility that concerns every citizen.

Delegates from the Office of the Speaker of Parliament also confirmed the legislature's involvement in the campaign.
