NRM campaigning costlier: Kilak North MP Anthony Akol
Akol last week thronged NRM plot 13 kyadondo welcomed with a large applause at the secretariat by the party electro commission chair man Dr.Tang Odoi.He was accompanied by Acholi traditional dancers who were singing Acholi traditional songs praising him.
However while speaking to salt media he confessed that the cost of running a campaign has become more costly as voters demand for a fees under NRM.”while I was opposition it was easy to ask for a vote,I only needed to speak against government program, but now there is a cost implication “he lamented.
Akol a soft spoken legislator gained fame after his aggressive approach in settling out issues. Recently while the house was debating the coffee amendment bill, he confronted Mityana south Mp Francis Zaake when he showered him with punches prompting the speaker to suspend the sitting as these disagreed over a sit.
In the ninth parliament he was involved in a physical fight with Aruu county Mp Odong Otto.These had developed a misunderstanding where Akol accused Otto for influencing his voters on allegations of selling land in Amuru to government.
Speaking to the press after the incident honorable Akol confessed slapping Otto in defending himself after Otto had kicked him on the knee.In September 13th,2016 he had a dispute with the then Nakifuma county Mp ,Robert Sekitooleko where he accused him for having bribed Mps to support the sugar bill. Besides filling a defamation suit against him Sekitooleko wanted a physical fight.
With his physical appearance being a giant honorable Akol is a slow spoken gentleman who believes in accomplishing his dream. At one time he confessed to have been abducted by LRA commander Joseph Kony where he was kept in captivity for two year.
His crossing to NRM from FDC is a major blow for the opposition as he has been one of the major party moblizers in Northern Uganda.
