Minister Frank Tumwebaze launches re-election campaign in Kibale County

Kamwenge, the Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, officially launched his campaign in Kibale County, seeking to reclaim the NRM party flag before the crucial primary elections on July 16. He addressed a rally of supporters, emphasising his service and commitment to the NRM’s development agenda.

Tumwebaze, a seasoned politician and close ally of President Yoweri Museveni, faces competition for the party’s endorsement. In his speech, he highlighted his contributions to infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Kibale County, urging delegates to reward his loyalty and experience. He emphasised the importance of continuity and delivering more.

The race for the NRM flag in Kibale County is expected to be fierce, with several party members interested. However, Tumwebaze’s deep-rooted connections and visibility as a cabinet minister give him an advantage. Political analysts suggest his campaign strategy will focus on grassroots mobilisation, highlighting past achievements, and leveraging his influence.

The July 16 primaries will determine whether Tumwebaze retains his position as the party’s flag bearer or faces an upset. A loss would end his current political chapter and signal shifting dynamics within the NRM’s regional power structures. Conversely, a victory would reinforce his standing as a dominant force in Kamwenge politics and set the stage for another term in national leadership.

Local supporters have mixed reactions to Tumwebaze’s accessibility and development record, with some praising him while others call for fresh leadership. NRM officials emphasise unity and fair competition, warning against divisive tactics that could weaken the party. As the campaign intensifies, all eyes will be on Kibale County to see if Tumwebaze’s message of experience and stability resonates with delegates. His ability to counter challengers and mobilise support will be crucial in the closely watched showdown. Tumwebaze remains optimistic, banking on his legacy and constituency trust. His bid to reclaim the NRM flag tests his enduring influence in Kibale County and the broader NRM framework. With the clock ticking toward July 16, his every move will shape his future and Kamwenge’s representation in Uganda’s political arena.
