Kasambya's NRM Flag Bearers Launch Constituency Tour

The tour covered multiple villages, with each stop revealing distinct community needs

In an unconventional start to the political season, Kasambya County’s unopposed National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearers have begun a comprehensive constituency tour, framing it as a service-delivery mission rather than a political campaign.

Led by incumbent MP David Kabanda and Woman MP Hopegranier Nakazibwe, the initiative kicked off today with a series of public meetings across the constituency, beginning in Lwensambya, Kalagala Parish. Despite running unopposed in the upcoming elections, the MPs emphasised that their visit was about “interaction, not campaigning.”

The tour covered multiple villages, with each stop revealing distinct community needs:

Residents gathered to welcome the MPs, with local leaders thanking Kabanda for donating a scanning machine to Kalagala Health Centre II. In turn, they urged the MPs to prioritise rehabilitating St. Stephan School into a government-aided institution and fencing off the Mugunguru area for security.

Village LC1 Chairperson Robert Musenene raised the persistent challenge of limited electricity access, which affects local businesses and students’ ability to study after dark.

Here, land conflicts took centre stage. Residents from Kyaterekera explained their inability to secure land titles and requested UGX 10 million in support to process ownership documents.

Local chairperson Mike Mugabe appealed for coffee seedlings to boost agricultural productivity, highlighting the need for improved farming inputs.

Mugungulu:
At their final stop, the MPs pledged to enhance overall service delivery in the area, focusing on healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

In a press briefing after the tour, MP Kabanda emphasised that their role extends beyond elections.

Woman MP Hopegranier Nakazibwe highlighted her focus on gender and youth empowerment, promising to introduce targeted programs for women’s welfare and skills development for young people.

While many residents expressed appreciation for the MPs’ visit, their requests reflected pressing, unresolved challenges. From land titles to agricultural support and electricity, the message was clear: tangible results matter more than political assurances.

With the MPs unopposed in the upcoming polls, political tension is low, but the pressure to deliver remains high. The tour signalled a shift from traditional rally-based campaigning to a more grassroots, issue-focused approach—a model that may redefine engagement in uncontested constituencies.

As the MPs move forward, their ability to translate today’s pledges into action will determine their standing with the people they serve.
