Government warns against land grabbing in Lyantonde, calls for unity and support for NRM
LYANTONDE – The government has issued a strong warning against land grabbing in Lyantonde District, urging residents to resolve land disputes peacefully. The call was made during a rally organised to mobilise support for President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the upcoming elections.
Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba emphasised that the government will not tolerate illegal land evictions. Speaking at the campaign event in Kalagala, Lyantonde, she assured residents that the government is committed to delivering services to the grassroots, as outlined in its wealth creation programs.
"No one has the right to grab land from others. We encourage dialogue and proper legal processes in resolving land disputes," Nabakooba stated. She urged those involved in land conflicts to remain calm and allow government mechanisms to address their grievances.
Enos Kinywamacyunda, the Kabula County Member of Parliament, used the platform to address key concerns affecting Lyantonde residents. He highlighted issues such as land conflicts, electricity shortages, and poor road conditions, promising to push for government intervention.
"We must work together to ensure development reaches everyone. The NRM government is focused on improving livelihoods, and we need your support to achieve this," Kinywamacyunda said, clad in a yellow NRM T-shirt.
Former Lyantonde District Chairperson Fred Muhanji, who was ousted in a recent election, attended the rally and commended the NRM for its development efforts. Despite his removal, he expressed gratitude to Lyantonde residents for their past support and reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party.
"The NRM has delivered 78% support in Lyantonde before, and this time, we aim for 100%," Muhanji declared, dressed in a yellow shirt symbolising NRM allegiance.
Kilyowa Kiwanuka, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), reassured residents that the government is actively working to resolve land disputes. He urged the community to remain patient and trust legal processes.
"We will not allow chaos in Lyantonde. The government is here to protect your land rights," Kilyowa stated firmly.
The event also featured performances by popular artists, including Eddy Kenzo, to engage the youth and energise support for the NRM. The rally concluded with a call for unity and continued trust in President Museveni’s leadership.
