Entire Nation Joins Buganda to Celebrate 33 Years of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II's Reign

Uganda celebrated the 33rd anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s coronation at Watoto Church. The event was attended by a large crowd, with tight security and people of all ages present.

Love and joy were evident among the crowds gathered at Watoto Church in Bweyogerere along Jinja Road, as the nation came together to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the coronation of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. Security was tight throughout the venue, and the church was filled to capacity, with people of all ages sitting both inside and outside under tents, enduring the hot weather to honor their King.

The central government was represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, alongside ministers and Members of Parliament from both the opposition and ruling parties. The Nnaabagereka (Queen) Sylvia Nagginda was present in full regalia, joined by princes and princesses who were received with great honor and respect.

Bishop Julius Rwotlonyo, the head of Watoto Church, led the congregation in prayer and worship, offering special intercessions for the Kabaka. The worship team led the gathering through songs and praises, extolling the greatness of the King who never tires in his leadership of Buganda and the nation at large.

Watoto Church also contributed Shs 38 million towards the efforts to acquire a boat that will serve as a mobile clinic on the lake for island communities. Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga, who was present at the celebrations, recalled that on July 31, 1993, he served as secretary of the Buganda Lukiiko and witnessed the historic events of that time. He affirmed that although the Kabaka is not physically present today, his spirit of leadership remains firmly in place.

In his remarks, the Katikkiro expressed gratitude to President Museveni's government for the restoration of the monarchy in May 1993. He emphasized the importance of culture as the central theme of this year's anniversary, urging everyone to preserve and protect it without fear. Prime Minister Nabbanja took the lead in thanking Buganda for celebrating the significance of President Museveni's long-standing relationship with the Kingdom.

Rt. Hon. Nabbanja read a special message from President Museveni, in which he commended the King for his commitment to developing Buganda and Uganda, particularly in the areas of agriculture, livestock, and health. The President also contributed Shs 40 million in support of the anniversary celebrations, a donation handed over to Katikkiro Mayiga.

The Watoto worship team paid a vibrant tribute to Buganda, captivating the audience with their performances, including a rendition of the national anthem that moved everyone to reflect on the importance of unity. Cakes were shared, and it was a moment of celebration as leaders from various levels praised and honored the Kabaka, reaffirming their loyalty and commitment to the Kingdom and the nation.
