Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo Advises Newly Appointed Judges to Uphold Integrity in Their New Roles

In an effort to expedite the resolution of cases in lower courts and reduce case backlogs, the judiciary has appointed additional judges to these courts to support the existing ones.

Among the new appointments, 12 judges have been assigned to head lower courts, while 39 others have been appointed to the High Court. These judges recently underwent a two-week training program at Colline Hotel in Mukono to prepare them for their new roles.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed judges, Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo urged them to maintain integrity and professionalism in their new positions. He cautioned them against using their positions for personal gain and emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, respecting human rights, and delivering justice without fear or favor.

The Chief Justice also reminded the judges to remain impartial, fearless, and committed to the principles of justice, even in the face of external pressures. He stressed the need for them to work diligently and maintain the dignity of the judiciary.

Lady Justice Damalie N. Lwanga, the Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute, encouraged the judges to be proactive in their duties and to ensure fairness and equality for all. She highlighted the significance of the training program in equipping the judges with the necessary skills to perform their roles effectively.

Dr. Flavian Zeija, the Principal Judge (Deputy Chief Justice Designate), also addressed the newly appointed judges, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law and delivering justice impartially. He urged them to carry out their duties with diligence and to treat all individuals equally, without discrimination.

The training program aimed to strengthen the capacity of the judges to handle their responsibilities effectively and to ensure the fair administration of justice in their respective courts.
