In a groundbreaking development, veteran opposition leader Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye is set to deliver the keynote address at the official launch of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025—despite currently being incarcerated.
The announcement was made by acting PFF spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju, who described the upcoming address as a “rare and symbolic moment” where the voice of a political prisoner will resonate beyond the prison walls.
Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential contender and one of President Museveni’s most prominent critics, has remained a towering figure in Uganda’s political landscape despite frequent arrests and detentions over the years.
His anticipated speech is expected to inject renewed energy into the opposition movement as the country edges closer to the 2026 general elections. The PFF launch will also unveil the party’s core agenda, centered on democracy, constitutionalism, and citizen empowerment.
While organizers remain tight-lipped about the logistics—fueling speculation on whether the speech will be live or pre-recorded—the moment is widely seen as a bold act of defiance and a rallying call for change. Leaders from across Uganda’s political spectrum are expected to attend.
