RDC Advises Against Swimming in Pools and Open Water Due to Mpox Outbreak in Mukono

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mukono, bans swimming, he issued a warning to schools and the public to avoid taking children to swimming pools or allowing them to swim in open water bodies.

This directive comes in response to the increasing cases of Mpox in the district, which has raised concerns about the spread of the disease.
Hassan Kasibante, the Deputy Presidential Representative in Mukono, has supported the RDC's directive, emphasizing the need to prevent the spread of Mpox. He urged schools to comply with the guidelines and avoid exposing children to swimming activities, which could facilitate disease transmission.
Kasibante further clarified that the directive does not imply the closure of schools or recreational facilities but is a precautionary measure to curb the spread of Mpox. He called for cooperation from school administrators, facility owners, and the public to ensure children's and the community's safety.
However, the directive has sparked mixed reactions among school administrators and swimming pool operators. Some argue that the ban on swimming activities will negatively affect students, as swimming is both a recreational and an educational
