KAMPALA, UGANDA – A 28-year-old journalist is receiving medical treatment at Mulago Hospital after being knocked down by a police vehicle in the Ggaba Trading Centre on Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred on April 15, 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM along the stretch between Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School.
According to a statement from SP Kawala Racheal, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace, registration number UU 00067 T, commonly referred to as a "Drone." The vehicle was transporting a suspect identified only as Okello at the time of the incident.
"It is alleged that the vehicle... developed a brake failure upon reaching the Mobile Court premises, causing it to knock down the pedestrian," SP Kawala stated.
The victim has been identified as Mulwana Ronald, a 28-year-old male journalist. Following the crash, he was quickly rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing. No further details regarding the condition of the journalist or the status of the suspect being transported have been released at this time.
