Health Center Receives Beds and Mattresses

Ministry of Health donates 20 beds and 30 mattresses to Kakinga Health Center III.

Kakinga, Bunyangabu District – The Ministry of Health has donated 20 new beds and 30 mattresses to Kakinga Health Center III in Kakinga Town Council, Bunyangabu District, in a move aimed at improving healthcare services for the local community.

The health center, which serves a large population in the surrounding area, had been struggling with outdated and worn-out furniture. The donation is expected to provide a more comfortable and safe environment for patients, enhancing their treatment and recovery experience.

The Mayor of Kakinga Town Council, Mr. Remegious Turyahebwa, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its positive impact on the facility’s operations.

“This donation will enable the health center to upgrade its facilities and provide better care to patients. We are thankful to the Ministry of Health for their support.”

He added that the health center serves not only Kakinga Town Council but also neighboring sub-counties and communities.

Despite the donation, some community members, particularly mothers, raised concerns about the broader challenges in accessing healthcare. They highlighted the long distances they travel to reach health facilities and shared experiences of giving birth in inadequate locations, such as a ward near the police post and town offices.

“We have been walking long distances to access health services and have even had to give birth in unsuitable locations. We need more improvements.”

“The lack of proper facilities has made healthcare access difficult for us. We hope for more support in the future.”

The community appreciated the government’s gesture and pledged to resume productive activities with the improved healthcare services.

“We are grateful for the beds and mattresses. This will greatly improve healthcare services here.”

Bunyangabu District has a population of 219,012 people, with 112,678 males and 106,334 females. The district has only one Health Center IV, which serves as the highest-level healthcare facility in the area. Local leaders are now appealing to the government to upgrade Kibito Health Center IV to a hospital to better serve the growing population.
