Fatal Crash in Budaka: Boda Boda Rider Dies After Hitting Parked Truck

BUDAKA, UGAND, A tragic road accident in Budaka District has claimed the life of a 25-year-old boda boda rider and left his passenger fighting for their life.

The incident occurred late Monday night, June 30, 2026, at approximately 11:30 PM at Lupada Trading Centre, along the busy Mbale-Tirinyi highway.

According to a police report, the deceased has been identified as William Meke, a resident of Naboa village in Naboa Town Council. He was riding a red Haojue motorcycle, registration number UGH 061Z, traveling from Mbale towards Budaka.

ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson, confirmed the details of the crash. A white Tata motor vehicle, registration number UBM 239G, had developed a mechanical fault and was parked on the left-hand side of the road, heading from Mbale. The driver placed tree leaves around the vehicle as a warning sign.

"It is alleged that upon reaching Lupada Trading Centre, the deceased rider failed to notice the stationary vehicle in time and knocked its rear right-hand side," ASP Kyempasa stated. "The impact killed the rider on the spot and left his passenger with serious injuries."

The passenger, whose identity is yet to be established, was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for urgent medical care. The body of the deceased was conveyed to Budaka Health Center IV mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted.

Police have impounded the motorcycle at Budaka Central Police Station as investigations and an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) get underway. The driver of the Tata truck fled the scene and is currently at large.

"Active inquiries are ongoing to trace the fleeing driver and determine the full circumstances surrounding this fatal collision," ASP Kyempasa added.
