Bukedea Embraces Hope as Ruparelia Foundation Launches Eye Camp in Memory of Late Son

BUKEDEA, Uganda – A major medical outreach has brought relief to hundreds of residents in Bukedea District, as the Ruparelia Foundation launched a free eye camp at Bukedea Teaching Hospital.

The three-day camp is part of ongoing efforts to treat eye conditions affecting both the elderly and young children.

The initiative has drawn large numbers of people from across the district, all seeking free medical care and treatment for various eye-related ailments.

Speaking to  Sheena Ruparelia, who heads the Ruparelia Foundation, explained that this is the fourth such medical camp organized by the foundation. She noted that eye disease remains a serious but often neglected health challenge, particularly among young children.

According to the organizers, the medical camp has mobilized significant financial resources to enable the treatment of different diseases. Sheena Ruparelia emphasized that the outreach was specifically designed to assist vulnerable people who cannot afford private medical care.

The Ruparelia Foundation has partnered with Mulago National Referral Hospital, bringing in over 15 specialized eye experts to conduct the screenings and surgeries. The team initially planned to serve about 2,000 patients, but they now hope to reach up to 5,000 people before the camp concludes.

Dr. Lawrence Muganga, the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, explained why the university also joined the initiative, highlighting the importance of giving back to the community.

The area Member of Parliament, Beecham Okwere David, commended the foundation’s efforts and called on more well-wishers to support the community, especially those with limited financial means.
