Bussi, Wakiso District – Residents of Zzinga Island in Bussi Sub-County have expressed gratitude to Wakiso District Chairman Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika for his intervention in upgrading Zzinga Health Centre III, particularly the construction of a new maternity ward to address maternal health challenges.  
Dr. Bwanika inspected progress on a new maternity block to reduce maternal deaths. The facility will provide safer delivery services and eliminate boat journeys to Entebbe Hospital.

Masaka, Uganda – Health officials in Masaka City are sounding the alarm over a worsening outbreak of poverty-linked illnesses, with poor sanitation conditions in rapidly urbanising areas creating a public health emergency.  

The District Health Officer is concerned about the low number of women attending health centres for antenatal care. While around fifty women visit Lukale Health Centre each day for antenatal services, the centre only sees approximately fifty women delivering each month.

The Ministry of Health has issued a warning to midwives concerning rampant corruption that has contributed to maternal and infant deaths in hospitals. Dr. Ronny made this statement, Bahatungire, the commissioner in the Ministry of Health, during a commemoration of the Birth.
