YY Coaches Suspended for 15 Days
The Ministry of Works has grounded and suspended the operations of YY coaches for 15 days starting today at 7 p.m., following the recent nasty accidents in Katosi and along the Gulu highway attributed to reckless driving.
Â
Works state minister Fred Byamukama says that in the 15 days of suspension, they expect to inspect the mechanical conditions of all the YY buses and re-examine their route charts and driver driving licences.
Â
He alleges that YY coaches drivers are overaged beyond 60 years, although some have had their ages court-verified with sworn affidavits and deedpolls when applying for bus badges to reduce their ages
Â
Byamukama says once this is proven, they will be liable for penalties
Â
Â
The driver of the YY coach that fatally killed passengers along Katosi roads is still missing, and the ministry says will face trial once he resurfaces.
Â
Some families still claim their missing persons in the same accident as others still nurse major injuries.
Â
Another YY coach had an accident in Ayago village along the Gulu highway with minor injuries.
Â
Byamukama says that in the 15 days they inspect all the YY buses, appointment letters of the drivers, schedules for fresher trainings of the drivers and once they fall below standard, YY risks indefinite suspension from operations
