Workers Dying in Accidents: Museveni Orders Urgent Reforms in Factories

Following the increasing accidents among workers, especially those in the Jinja Highway infant formula factory in Mbalala, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited the companies to meet employers and employees to assess how to improve their safety. The deaths of workers have raised concerns about their safety, prompting intervention from area leaders, including State Minister for Water Ronald Kibuule.

During the meeting, President Museveni outlined several measures, though there was some tension between him and Hon. Kibuule. Today, Hon. Kibuule announced the President’s directives, which include constructing flyovers, walkways, and ensuring all workers are insured to guarantee their rights.

Kibuule revealed that the matter had already reached the Cabinet, where discussions were held. He explained that many workers face extreme hardships, including workplace accidents, loss of life, and long working hours in dark conditions without proper lighting.

The President ordered swift action, including ensuring employers provide land in Kyampisi and Nama sub-counties for the construction of additional factories.

### Workers Welcome the Directive
Employees in these factories expressed relief at the President’s directive, citing the difficulties they face, particularly in commuting to work, which has claimed many lives.

Dedicated workers said this directive will help secure their rights, as many have no recourse when employers neglect their welfare.

### Residents and Leaders Applaud the Move
Local leaders and residents welcomed the President’s order, calling for quick implementation to prevent further worker deaths.

This comes at a time when a Sena Group worker died in a steel factory accident, along with two siblings who perished in a cement truck crash in Mbalala.
