The Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, David Bahati, has been honoured with a prestigious award in recognition of his distinguished service as a well-known Peace Ambassador.
The award was presented by the United Nations University for Global Peace, an institution based in the USA.
The ceremony was held here in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. The award was conferred by His Eminence Prof. Dr Madhu Krishana, who emphasised that this honour is not given to just anyone. According to Dr Madhu, it is reserved for distinguished individuals globally, including former Prime Ministers and Presidents of nations.
His Eminence Prof. Dr Madhu Krishana, a highly accomplished scientist and Chairman of the Board of the American University USA and the United Nations University for Global Peace USA, is among the very few people in the world to have received this award.

The President of the United States previously awarded Prof. Dr Madhu himself the Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also slated to chair a significant international committee starting in 2026.
Notably, former U.S. President Barack Obama is also a recipient of this award, honoured by America for his global peace efforts. While presenting the award to Prof. Dr Madhu, Obama commended him for fostering peace across 80 countries and for educating communities on peace and humanitarian initiatives.
His Eminence Prof. Dr Madhu Krishana’s contributions are further immortalised in a monument erected at the European Union headquarters in 2014, recognising him as a leading global humanitarian rights defender and a peace leader.
Dr Madhu’s accolades began early; in 1991, as a young man, he received an award for being the world's foremost individual using scientific innovation to protect the global environment.

Although of Indian origin, Dr Madhu resides in the United States and has significantly assisted the nation in scientific discoveries that have positioned it as a leader in technology.
Dr Madhu is currently in Kampala during the school holiday period and was specifically invited from the United States to present awards to deserving Ugandans. This includes presenting an award to Minister Persis Namuganza, alongside Minister David Bahati, honouring their contributions to promoting peace and humanitarianism in Uganda and Africa at large.
Following his duties in Uganda, Prof. Dr Madhu will return to the United States. His mission here was to present awards to individuals selected for the honour in 2025 by the United Nations
