"The Door Is Still Open": Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park Reaches Out to Burnt Worker, Covers All Costs, and Slams Misleading Social Media Demands

The management of Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park has moved to clarify what it describes as “inaccurate and misleading information” circulating on social media and in sections of the press regarding a recent workplace incident involving an employee of Future Plastic Products, a tenant company within the park.

Addressing the media, Mr. Kenth, the Public Relations Officer for the industrial park, expressed the company’s dismay at the spread of misinformation and provided a detailed account of the events, emphasizing the park’s unwavering commitment to its workers’ health and safety.

According to Mr. Kenth, the incident occurred when the affected individual, Mr. Rugamayo Michael, accessed a department to which he was not assigned, resulting in burns from hot water.

“The safety of every worker is our paramount concern,” Mr. Kenth stated. “Immediately following the incident, Mr. Rugamayo received prompt first aid. Management then took him to a clinic where he received medical attention. We have covered all associated medical costs from the very first day, including ongoing treatment, transport, and welfare support.”

Mr. Kenth presented documentation, including medical bills and proof of financial support, to substantiate the company’s claims.

He noted that management was fully prepared to continue supporting Mr. Rugamayo’s recovery. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the company was informed by the attending medical practitioner that the patient had self-discharged and subsequently ceased all communication.

“Our shock deepened upon seeing a video circulating online in which Mr. Rugamayo requested UGX 3,000,000 for alternative treatment in his village,” Mr. Kenth said. “Such a demand is not in line with the standard workers’ compensation policy, which is designed to provide structured, verifiable medical care and support.”

Despite the misleading narrative, Mr. Kenth reiterated the park’s open-door policy and its legal and moral obligations.

“We want to make it unequivocally clear: our commitment to Mr. Rugamayo remains absolute,” he affirmed. “The company is still ready and willing to cover all legitimate medical costs to ensure his full recovery. We are also committed to providing him with all necessary support during his recuperation and guaranteeing his reinstatement to his position once he is medically cleared to return to work.”

The PRO urged the public and media outlets to exercise restraint and rely on verified facts rather than unsubstantiated social media reports.

“We regret the spread of this false information, which distracts from the positive work being done here,” Mr. Kenth concluded. “Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park remains a proud partner of Uganda, dedicated to sustainable industrialization, creating thousands of jobs, and contributing to the nation’s socio-economic development. We will not allow misinformation to undermine the trust we have built with our workforce and the community.”

The park has attached evidence of the medical bills covered on the first day of Mr. Rugamayo’s clinic visit, along with proof of the financial support provided, to back their statement.
