Residents Criticize National Water, RDC Lwanga Calls for Accountability

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Nansana Municipality, Charles Lwanga, has criticized the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for the persistent water shortages and poor service delivery in areas such as Kawanda, Matugga, and other surrounding regions during this dry season.

The prolonged water crisis has left residents frustrated, as they are forced to endure long periods without access to clean water. The situation has worsened, with water becoming scarce and contaminated, leading to increased hardship and health concerns among the community.

RDC Lwanga has called on NWSC officials to be more accountable and responsive to the needs of the residents. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the people, especially during such challenging times. During a meeting with NWSC representatives, Lwanga urged them to address the water crisis urgently and ensure that residents receive reliable water services.

Residents expressed their dissatisfaction with NWSC, accusing the corporation of neglecting their responsibilities. They claimed that the water meters installed in their homes are often faulty, and they are billed excessively for water they do not receive. Some residents even compared their plight to that of animals, stating that even the livestock provided by the government to alleviate poverty are dying due to the lack of water.

During the meeting, the Deputy RDC also summoned the Kampala Water and Sanitation Manager, Muhammad Lutaaya, to explain the ongoing water crisis. However, despite the explanations provided, residents remained unsatisfied, feeling that their concerns were not adequately addressed.

RDC Lwanga emphasized that government employees, including those at NWSC, must serve the public diligently and avoid exploiting citizens. He warned against any form of negligence or corruption, especially as the country approaches the 2026 general elections. Lwanga urged NWSC to improve its services and ensure that residents have access to clean and reliable water.

The call for accountability comes at a time when many communities are struggling with water scarcity, highlighting the need for immediate action to address the crisis and restore public trust in the water utility provider.
