London Bound: Uganda Airlines Operates Maiden Flight

 

Entebbe, Uganda – Uganda Airlines has made history today with its inaugural direct flight from Entebbe International Airport to London, United Kingdom.  
 
The flight, which departed at exactly 10:00 AM local time, marks a significant milestone for the national carrier as it expands its international routes.  
 
Uganda Airlines is operating this long-haul flight using its modern Airbus A330neo, a state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with advanced comfort and safety features.  
 
This highly anticipated flight brings the airline’s total destinations to 17 across 14 countries.  
 
The new route will operate three times a week—on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—with a one-way ticket priced at 2,743,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately $750).  
 
The aircraft has a passenger capacity of 250, and Jennifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, highlighted the airline’s commitment to enhancing Uganda’s aviation sector.  
 
Government and Business Leaders Onboard  
 
Senior government officials and business executives were among the passengers on this maiden flight to the UK.  
 
Economic Growth a Key Focus
 
The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, emphasized that this new route is part of efforts to boost Uganda’s economic growth through improved air connectivity.
 
 
 
UK Welcomes the New Route
 
Lisa Chesney, the UK’s representative in Uganda, expressed optimism about the strengthened ties between the two nations, describing the direct flight as a step forward in fostering trade and tourism.
