Government and ITMS contractor agree to sort out number plates delays

KYAMBOGO, Uganda – The Minister for Transport and Roads, Fred Byamukama, has asked for calm and patience from motorists as government  and Intelliegent Transport Monitoring System the contactor on digital number plates continue to engage to rectify and sort out all the delays and compalints.

 

The Minister made these remarks during an on-site inspection tour of the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System company, which is responsible for manufacturing the new plates at its facility in Kyambogo. 

 

During the visit, Byamukama acknowledged that there has been significant public outcry and operational bottlenecks affecting the company’s service delivery. 

 

He assured Ugandans that the government is actively working with the firm to rectify these issues to ensure that every citizen requiring a digital plate can obtain it within a reasonable timeframe.

 

 

In a move to ease public anxiety, the Minister confirmed that all existing challenges and backlogs are expected to be fully resolved by August 30th. 

 

The minister dismissed social media claims alleging the suspension of services by the company confirming that services remain functional as they continue to engage.

 

He emphasized that the government is committed to a smooth and efficient transition to the new digital system.

 

Meanwhile, Nikita Nikosolev, the CEO of the company producing the plates, expressed confidence in the project's technological capabilities. 

 

Nikosolev boasted that the technology embedded in the Ugandan digital plates surpasses the advanced systems currently deployed the  war in middle East has made it difficult for timely shipping and delivery of the desired equipments hence causing  the unnecessary and undesired delays to motorists.

 

Addressing widespread public concern regarding the GPS tracking devices (trackers) installed within the new plates, Nikosolev moved to reassure motorists.

 

He confirmed that the devices are fully functional and highly effective   stressing  that their efficiency depends largely on the cooperation of drivers. 

 

He urged vehicle owners to collaborate closely with the police when reporting stolen vehicles, as this partnership is crucial for successfully tracking and recovering stolen cars.

 

The transition to digital number plates forms a core part of the government's broader strategy to digitize the transport sector, enhance revenue collection, and bolster vehicle security across the country.
