Police in Wantoni have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of murdering his former girlfriend in a fit of rage, then mutilating her body by cutting out her tongue before dumping it.
The suspect, Ochedde Charles a resident of Katosi Town Council in Mukono District, was apprehended following a tip-off from a friend who spotted him in the area. He is accused of killing Nakyeyune Rachael 32 in October 2024 at Gulama in Buikwe District.
According to police, Ochedde and Nakyeyune had been in a relationship that turned sour. On the fateful day, a misunderstanding escalated when Nakyeyune reportedly refused to publicly introduce Ochedde as her lover, an act he claimed greatly annoyed him.

In a chilling confession at Wantoni Police Station, Ochedde admitted to beating Nakyeyune until she died. He then allegedly cut out her tongue, dumped her body, and fled the scene. The body was later recovered and taken to hospital, where her death was confirmed.
The arrest came after Bogere Musa, the former husband isaw Ochedde in Wantoni and immediately alerted police. A swift operation led by the area Officer in Charge, Ngobi Dickson resulted in the suspect’s capture. Residents who witnessed the arrest reported hearing gunshots as police moved in.
Ochedde has since been detained at Wantoni Police Station and transferred to Central Police Station for further questioning and processing.
Speaking to journalists after the arrest, Ssenyonjo David father of the deceased, expressed relief after two years of searching for the suspect. “We have been waiting for this day. After he killed our daughter and ran away, the case has been under investigation. Today, our hearts are at peace. We thank the police for the good work they have done,” he said.
Bogere Musa described the killing as stemming from relationship issues. He revealed that while in hiding, Ochedde had been sending him threatening messages. “I thank the police for their swift action. I now urge the courts to ensure that justice is served fully,” Musa added.

Nanteeza Gift the daughter of the late Nakyeyune, emotionally recounted the events surrounding her mother’s death and appealed to the court to deliver justice for her family.

Residents in the area praised the police for their prompt response, with some thanking the officers for restoring a sense of security in the community.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and Ochedde will be arraigned in court to face murder charges. The case has sent shockwaves through Katosi Town Council and surrounding areas, highlighting the dangers of unresolved domestic and relationship conflicts.
