Police in Mukono District have arrested four suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a radiography specialist, Peter Mubiru, whose death has sparked outrage among residents and renewed calls for improved security.
Mubiru, a well-known medical worker attached to Happy Doctors Hospital in Seeta, was violently attacked on Monday evening as he returned home. According to preliminary reports, the assailants, who were riding on a motorcycle, ambushed him in Bagala Zone, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality, at around 7:00 PM. He was struck on the head with a paver stone, sustaining severe and life-threatening injuries.
The victim was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Mubiru succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Police investigations, led by the Kampala Metropolitan Police, have since resulted in the arrest of four individuals believed to have participated in the attack. The suspects have been identified as Abubaker Mususwa, Joshua Olowo, George Muyanja, and Umar Basibu.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrests, noting that the operation was intelligence-led and part of ongoing efforts to track down those responsible for the killing.
“We have so far arrested four suspects in connection with the murder, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack, as well as identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that police are in the process of gathering additional evidence, including forensic analysis and a postmortem report, to strengthen the case against the suspects. The four are currently in custody and are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated assault once investigations are complete.
The killing of Mubiru has sent shockwaves through Mukono, particularly among the medical fraternity and residents of Goma Division, who have described him as a dedicated professional committed to saving lives. Community members have expressed concern over the increasing cases of violent crime in the area, especially those involving attackers on motorcycles.
Local leaders have since called on security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance, particularly during evening hours, to curb criminal activity and restore public confidence in safety.
As investigations continue, police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any information that could aid in the ongoing inquiries.
The tragic death of Peter Mubiru adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the greater Mukono area, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened law enforcement measures to protect residents and professionals alike.
