Police and Prisons Services Announce Recruitment Drive; Warn Against Electoral Violence in Kawempe North

The Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Service have announced plans to recruit new officers to bolster their ranks and enhance service delivery to the public. Frank Baine, the spokesperson for the Uganda Prisons Service, revealed that the recruitment process will target individuals who have completed Senior Four (S.4) and possess the required academic qualifications. He emphasized that applicants must be physically fit, free from chronic illnesses, and willing to undergo rigorous training lasting several months.

Baine also warned against fraudulent individuals who may attempt to exploit the recruitment process, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. He stressed that only qualified and deserving candidates will be considered for the positions. In a related development, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the spokesperson for the Uganda Police Force, addressed concerns over potential electoral violence in the upcoming Kawempe North by-election scheduled for January 13. He urged all stakeholders, including political candidates, supporters, and voters, to maintain peace and avoid actions that could disrupt the electoral process.

Kituuma also criticized some media outlets for spreading false information and tarnishing the image of the police force. He emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and called for responsible journalism that upholds the truth. Additionally, Kituuma raised concerns over property owners who construct buildings without leaving access roads for emergency services. He warned that such practices endanger lives and hinder the police’s ability to respond effectively during emergencies.

Meanwhile, Simon Mundeyi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, provided updates on passport processing. He revealed that the ministry has produced 158,000 passports, with 12,580 already collected by applicants. The remaining passports are being distributed through authorized agencies to expedite the process for Ugandans seeking to travel abroad.

As the recruitment drive and electoral activities unfold, the government continues to emphasize the importance of transparency, accountability, and public safety in all its operations.
