KASESE, UGANDA – In a significant legal proceeding, more than seventy suspects allegedly involved in the coordinated November 1st attacks on security installations have been arraigned at the Kasese Chief Magistrate’s Court for their first hearing.
The suspects, who were transported from the districts of Bundibugyo, Fort Portal, and Kasese, face a raft of severe charges, including treason, terrorism, murder, attempted murder, financing terrorism, and aggravated robbery. These charges stem from a series of brazen assaults on police and army barracks that shook the western region, resulting in the deaths of over 40 people.
The appearance marks a pivotal moment in the high-profile case, as the state begins its formal legal process against the accused. The November 1st attacks represented one of the most serious security challenges in the area in recent years, prompting a large-scale military and police response.
The hearing today is expected to address procedural matters, including the formal reading of charges and potential remand requests as investigations continue. The case is being closely watched, given the gravity of the charges and the scale of the violence that occurred.
