Mukono Court Further Remands Woman Accused of Killing Husband with Children’s Help

A 40-year-old woman has been further remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing before the Senior Magistrate’s Court in Mukono on charges of murdering her husband and concealing his body with the alleged assistance of her children.

Alice Mbolanyi is accused of killing her husband, Charles Kiseeka, before, together with her two children, tying his body in a sack and dumping it in a pit latrine.

She faces charges of murder and being an accessory after the fact to the crime.

Mbolanyi appeared before Grade One Magistrate Jacob Okoth Osiro  today morning.

She was brought to court around 9:30 am in a prison bus from Luzira under heavy police guard and placed in the court cell before the charges were read to her.

The case could not proceed because the government prosecutor was absent.

Senior Grade One Magistrate John Bosco Osiro Oboth ordered her to be returned to Luzira Prison until April 27 for further mention, to allow the prosecution to update the court on the progress of investigations.

Mbolanyi is charged alongside her 16-year-old daughter, Nakalema Claire, and the daughter’s boyfriend, Lawrence Makumbi (17).

However, the two juveniles were not produced in court yesterday, a situation that angered the family of the deceased.

Speaking on behalf of the family outside the court, Lendivina Nabatanzi, mother of the deceased, expressed deep frustration and demanded swift justice.

The family strongly claims that Makumbi is actually over 18 years old, citing that he had previously worked as a Special Police Constable (SPC) during the election period.

Counsel John Kennedy Babumba, who held a watching brief for the deceased’s family, told the court he was dissatisfied with Makumbi being treated as a minor and remanded at Naguru Remand Home.

He announced plans to apply for a reassessment of Makumbi’s age so that the charge sheet can be amended if he is confirmed to be an adult.

In a brief statement after the court session, Counsel Babumba said: “Today the matter came back for mention to track the progress of investigations, but unfortunately the state attorney was not present.

The court has therefore adjourned the case to April 27 at 9:30 am for further mention. We believe one of the accused persons was wrongfully charged as a minor and we shall be applying for an age reassessment.”

The family also intends to write to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.

Separate Murder Case

In a separate matter at the same court, Hussein Dak Taewaiko (also referred to as Youth Hussain Taewaiko), the prime suspect in the murder of Pamella (Pamela) Ruth Tumwebaze, the former Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono, was also remanded.

Taewaiko appeared before Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu and was charged with murder. The magistrate adjourned the case to April 22 for mention after the government prosecutor, Josephine Nanyonga, updated the court on the status of investigations.

Both cases highlight the serious criminal proceedings currently underway at the Mukono court, as families of the victims anxiously await justice while investigations continue.
