Joint Security Night Raid Dismantles 'Aguus' Cells in Gulu, 15 Arrested

The cover of darkness provided no shield last night in Gulu City, as a joint force of the Uganda Police and the military sprung into action. In a precisely executed, intelligence-led operation, security forces moved in to cripple the criminal networks known locally as ‘Aguus’ cells, which have been a growing menace in the Pece-Laro Division.

The operation, which intensified on the night of June 8th, zeroed in on the Tegwana cell, Tegwana parish. According to police, it was a swift, disruptive strike designed to smoke out criminals right from their dens.

ASP Ongom David Mudong, the Public Relations Officer for the Aswa West Region, delivered a powerful firsthand account of the mission’s success. He confirmed that the night’s work saw fifteen suspects rounded up, and authorities recovered multiple bunches of what is suspected to be marijuana.

Speaking directly to the public, ASP Mudong didn’t hold back. He delivered a stark message to the youth, condemning the criminal activity and cautioning them to abandon such life choices immediately. “We strongly urge the youths to desist from engaging in acts of criminality but rather engage in developmental activities,” he stated firmly, underscoring a message of tough love and community responsibility.

The fifteen suspects are now being held at Gulu Central Police Station, facing a litany of charges. These range from possession of contraband substances, namely marijuana, to loitering with intent to commit a felony, and maintaining a common nuisance.

ASP Mudong made it explicitly clear that this is not a one-off event. He issued a stern warning that this crackdown is a sustained campaign, vowing, “This operation will continue until sanity is restored.”

As the sun rose over a much quieter Tegwana cell today, detectives are already hard at work. They are actively piecing together the case files, which will soon be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for thorough perusal and legal guidance. Once sanctioned, the suspects will be hauled before the courts of law to face prosecution, marking the final chapter of a well-planned night operation that has left the criminal underworld in Gulu reeling.
