UVTAB Executive Secretary Mr. Onesmus Oyesigye welcomed the engagement, noting that the board is ready to work with the Skilling Hub to enhance the quality of training. He emphasized their role not only in assessing learners but also in reviewing the Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs) to ensure compliance with the new TVET framework.
Eng. Kamugisha reiterated the importance of the partnership, explaining that aligning with the new legislation will ensure that Ugandans receive skills that are formally certified and recognized.
He further explained that the Presidential Skilling Hub was initiated by President Yoweri Museveni to equip unemployed and unskilled youth with free vocational training. So far, over 16,000 youth have been trained under the Presidential Hub program, with more than 60,000 benefitting through the Kampala Skilling initiative.
The program operates 19 hubs countrywide and 9 centres in Kampala, with graduates also receiving startup capital through district SACCOs to support their transition into the workforce.
