The number of victims in the Kasese mudslide has increased from nine reported earlier

 
Among the deceased are four males, eleven females of which six are juveniles all these from five households.
 
It is a sober mood in Kasese district following the death of fifteen people who died as a result of a mudslide that occurred when a run-off passed through several houses after a 3 hours non-stop rainfall in Kasika trading center in Rukoki sub-county.
 
Five households at the trading center are those that are said to have been directly affected where more than 20 people were residing.
 
Police in Rwenzori East have confirmed the incident and argued with the locals to vacate the place until further notice.
 
 
According to the Lc3 chairperson Rukoki sub-county Mr. Muhindo Emmy, about 100 homesteads have lost property and
over 350 people have been displaced in the area.
 
The compilation of all property, crop plantations destroyed in the disaster is being done.
 
Muhindi Eriphaz the chairperson Lc5 Kasese district told Salt television that a preparation to relocate the survivors is underway. This also includes providing food to the families that were affected.
 
 
The search for more bodies still continues with reports indicating that more people are still missing.
 
 
The Resident district commissioner is emphasising on regular public sensitisation about the climate Change patterns.
 
By 4:00pm some families who had recognized their loved ones had started taking them for burials as the search for possible remaining bodies continued.
