Saving the forest: Mpigi residents make final decision

During a meeting with officials from the National Forestry Authority (N.F.A), The residents of Boza village in Mpigi town council, have vowed not to allow anyone to encroach on the forest known as Kistu.


 Ronald Kibuuka, head of the Mpigi, Butambala and Gomba Forest Department, said the suspects will be arrested.
 The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Mpigi Town Council, David Mutebi Mutex , District Environment Officer, Tony Mwidyeki and various councillors.

 They were told by the residents that there is a soldier identified identified as col. Rwooga, who has destroyed forests in Mpigi under the guise of planting cauliflower which they cannot tolerate. Leaders along with residents visited the forest and expressed distress over severe damage due to the encroachment.

All the residents collectively demanded for the immediate replacement of the forest management board as they are at the fore front of forest destruction.

Tony Mwidyeki, the District Environment Officer, said the officials who were given the authority to protect the forests went ahead to destroyed them.
