Pastor Bujjingo Defends Tycoon Hamis Kiggundu, Labels Critics as "Enemies of Development"
In a spirited sermon during Wednesday's lunch hour service, Pastor Aloysious Bujjingo of House of Prayer Ministries International offered a defence of businessman Hamis Kiggundu amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the construction of the Nakivubo water channel.
Drawing a parallel from biblical times, Pastor Bujjingo referenced the Book of John, Chapter 5, Verse 10, where Jewish leaders criticised a healed man for carrying his mat on the Sabbath. The pastor stated that this scripture reflects the same spirit of those opposing Kiggundu's development efforts.
"The Jews said to the man who had been healed, 'It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed,'" Bujjingo quoted. "Similarly, some people have bad hearts against others. They are the ones opposing a businessman, Hamis Kiggundu, from moving on with constructing the Nakivubo channel project.
The pastor did not mince words in his characterisation of the project's critics, labelling them as obstacles to national progress. "Those are the enemies of development," he told the congregation.
He further elaborated with a powerful analogy, describing Uganda as a shared home and the capital city as its most important room. "Uganda is like a house where we all belong, and Kampala is like the sitting room. So if it is not constructed well, then we are all affected."
His message culminated in a call for unity and mutual appreciation among Ugandans. Pastor Bujjingo encouraged Christians to recognise and support each other's efforts toward national development, framing it as a collective responsibility.
The Nakivubo channel project, aimed at mitigating flooding in Kampala's central business district, has been a topic of public discourse. Kiggundu’s company is involved in its construction.
