NRM MPs Head to Munyonyo for Monthly Caucus Meeting Amid Party Unity Concerns

KAMPALA, Uganda – National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament left for Munyonyo this morning to attend a party caucus meeting, fulfilling a resolution made at the Kyankwanzi retreat to hold caucus sessions at least once a month.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at midday at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort Hotel, will be addressed by President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman .

The venue was shifted from the earlier planned Kololo Independence Grounds to accommodate more space and improved logistics, as well as to allow for entertainment activities including a planned performance by musician Ray G .

Speaking to Salt FM before the team's departure, Nwoya Woman MP Christine Lanyero cited internal squabbles within the party that have resulted in disunity and need to be resolved. Lanyero, whose NRM flag bearer victory was recently upheld by the party tribunal , emphasized that the caucus provides a critical platform for addressing these issues.

Meanwhile, Lira Woman MP Linda Auma welcomed the party's decision to implement the Kyankwanzi resolution on monthly caucusing. Auma, whose primary victory was previously overturned following a vote recount , also expressed support for the party's move to engage former independent MPs who had exited due to election frustration.

Relatedly, Rushenyi County MP Naume Kabasharira proposed that the party chairperson should address the electoral drama that has affected the party's performance . Kabasharira, who is running for a second term, has been a vocal advocate for party unity and continuity .

Discussions at the caucus are expected to focus on government programmes, party discipline, and preparations for upcoming parliamentary business . The meeting comes as the ruling party mobilises its members ahead of key government activities in Parliament.

Security has been heightened around the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort Hotel ahead of the meeting .
