Minister Sweats for Just 25 Votes in Chaotic Village Election – Can She Survive the Bigger Battle?
Sironko District . In a dramatic showdown that exposed the fierce battle for grassroots political dominance, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs and Woman MP for Sironko District, Hon. Florence Nambozo, was forced into a two-day sweatfest just to scrape a narrow victory in a tiny village election.
The NRM Women’s League Chairperson elections in bukomba village turned into a political thriller when the minister, who expected a smooth "unopposed" victory, was shocked to find a last-minute challenger ,Aisha Nalubega.
The first round of voting descended into chaos after Nambozo rejected the process, protesting that she was supposed to run uncontested. Supporters clashed, allegations of foul play flew, and the election had to be cancelled.
When voting resumed yesterday under the watch of NRM Spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo, tensions were still high. Nalubega , accused the minister of locking some of her supporters in a room after bribing them, allegedly to prevent them from voting her .
"They were kept there the whole night! How is this free and fair?" Nalubega fumed. She also protested that the election was held ,inside the minister’s compound , calling it outright intimidation.
When the dust settled, the results were shocking, Total registered NRM voters in the village: 86
Hon. Nambozo’s votes: 25
Nalubega’s votes: 11
Meaning ,less than half of the voters even bothered to cast their ballots, raising serious questions about the minister’s grassroots strength.
Despite the underwhelming numbers, Nambozo celebrated her win , declaring that
"Whether I got 25 votes or 100, what matters is that I won! a win is always a win .The battle has just begun!"
She also dismissed the allegations of locking up voters as "baseless rumors" and thanked her supporters.
But critics are already mocking the minister’s struggle, asking,
"If she had to sweat this hard for just 86 voters , what will happen when she faces 10,000+ voters in the district?"
Her next opponent? Mr. Lumolo, a seasoned political heavyweight vying for the NRM District Chairperson seat .
Will Nambozo survive the bigger battle, or has this tiny village clash exposed her fragile grip on power?
One thing is clear Sironko’s political drama has only just begun.
