Traders at Ovino Mall have had enough. After 15 years of what they call mistreatment and mismanagement under an Indian landlord, they have elected a new leadership committee to take over. The tenants say they are tired of being harassed and are now demanding a formal handover.
The building, known as Ovino Mall, is located in Kisenyi. It was constructed by an Indian national from the Tripati Company. Although the mall was built under a condominium arrangement with Ugandans , the Indian landlord reportedly retained majority shares.
For 15 years, the Indian national has been collecting revenue from the property, even though the Ugandan tenants are also legal landlords.

The situation has become unbearable. They say the current leadership under the Indian national, Mr. Tripat, is oppressive. Now, local leaders and businesspeople have helped them form an interim committee.
The traders have elected Mr. Francis Kawayo as their new Chairperson. He is now asking the old administration to recognize the newly elected leaders and begin the formal handover process.
The landlords are now demanding that the old guard step aside. They insist that only the newly elected leaders, who represent the true owners of the building, should be recognized.
