Hariss International And Partners Raise UGX 3bn From Cancer Run

The 2025 Rotary Cancer Run has made significant history among other runs, where more than 3bn was realised from the more than sixty thousand runners across the country.

Hariss International, with its Krystal mineral water, was a platinum sponsor in realising the noble cause for humanity.

The 3 billion is part of the more than UGX 18 billion target aimed at completing the cancer treatment centre at Nsambya Hospital, where bunkers are now under construction but still require additional funding.

Hariss International, the makers of Riham products, have sponsored the event for the past two and, rehydrating all runners as the company's media and public relations officer, Osiika Antony, highlighted.

Uganda faces a growing cancer burden, increasingly shifting from infection-related cancers to lifestyle-related cancers, driven by factors like alcohol consumption and unhealthy diets. 

Challenges include limited access to diagnosis and treatment, with most cases presenting at late stages, contributing to high mortality rates. 

Uganda estimates over 34,000 new cancer cases and 22,000 deaths every year, making cancer the leading killer disease in the country.

The majority of cancer cases present at advanced stages, significantly reducing treatment success rates, and most of the patients cannot access available cancer and treatment services, coupled with a lack of regional cancer centres and inadequate medication supply, hindering effective cancer care delivery.
