Government is set to prioritize irrigation schemes throughout the country to boost production.
The state minister for Agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, Hon. Fred Bwino Kyagulaga, disclosed this during his visit to the Mubuku irrigation scheme in Kasese district.
The minister, who is fact-finding on issues about the Mubuku irrigation scheme, said that President Museveni is determined to see that irrigation schemes are introduced in all parts of the country to boost food production.
He noted that the Mubuku irrigation scheme which is set on two thousand hectares has helped farmers to produce a variety of farm products which has increased their incomes.
The minister who toured the irrigation scheme realized that some individuals had forcefully grabbed the scheme land leaving the majority of poor people without where to cultivate.
The Deputy resident district commissioner for Kasese district in a change of Busongora county, Zephernus Mubigwa noted that, there's a need to streamline the management of the Mubuku irrigation scheme so that the common person can also benefit.
He revealed that land grabbing in the Kasese district remains a big challenge that needs central Government intervention.
