Uganda moves to promote Tourism as Mbale Wildlife Conservation opened

Uganda Wildlife Authority has intensified efforts to promote the tourism sector that was hit hard by Covid-19 six years ago.
 
Mbale Wildlife Conservation Centre has been inaugurated by the Vice president Rtd Major Jessica Alupo funded by the government.
 
During the National Budget presentation on Thursday, Henry Musasizi the minister of Finance and Economic Planning outlined the five key areas government has identifies to accelerate grown known as ATMS among them is Tourism Development.
 
Minister Musasizi said that Tourism is categorised as a powerful export industries that generates foreign exchange, creates jobs, supports thousands of enterprises and it showcases Uganda to the world. 
 
The ministry of Finance in the next financial year 2026-2027 has allocated shillings 567.32 billion to promote tourism by branding Uganda as one of the safest tourists destination worldwide.

Mbale Wildlife Conservation Centre is located in East Uganda on Mbale-Tororo highway next to Uganda Revenue Authority checkpoint.
 
The government has invested shillings 29 billion in the centre a symbol of national progress.

This will save people journeys to Kampala and Entebbe to tour lions, elephants as local tourism attract learners both from primary and secondary schools.
 
Speaking to Muyama Annet, a teacher at Police Primary School, recalled the trauma of logistical nightmares to Kampala that is the only gateway to Entebbe Zoo but now the facility has been established in Eastern Uganda.

The little Kituzi Rayan, a pupil at Nabumali Boarding School, describe the centre as a "game-changer." He noted that pupils previously have been deprived of sleep on the eve of School Tour trips which has ended.

It is expected to boost local businesses and local tourism in line with the government priorities to invest directly in the people of Uganda as outlined by the minister of Finance Musasizi in his budget speech.
 
Mbale Wildlife Conservation Centre is to attract visitors from other East African countries because of its strategic location and will tap in cross-border market with Kenya thus more revenue to Mbale City.
 
His Highness Mike Jude Mudoma, the Bugisu Cultural Leader (Umukuka), reflected on the 70-years of injustice of centralization drawing a shadow on tourist attractions of the East.
 
Hon. Lydia Wayoto the Woman Representative of Mbale City in the 12th parliament who also doubles as the state Minister for Public Service, noted the natural beauty of Eastern Uganda.
 
The Mayor Mbale City, Joyce Kidulu Matuka, a teacher by professional has assured full cooperation with the centre to generate local revenue.
 
Dr. James Musinguzi, the Executive Director, Uganda Wildlife Authority(UWA), revealed that the congestion at the Entebbe Zoo has led to decentralisation of tourism facilities with more to be developed.
 
Vice President, Jessica Alupo, revealed that the broader national strategy of the government is to empower regions that are now connected with a robust road network.
 
The Mbale Wildlife Conservation Centre does not just cage animals; it has unlocked a new future for the East.
