President Approved Ham For Nakivubo Channel

President Museveni Commends Dr. Hamis Kiggundu for Nakivubo Channel Redevelopment Project

Kampala, Uganda – In a significant show of support, His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has publicly praised Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, the prominent Ugandan businessman and philanthropist, for his visionary initiative to redevelop the Nakivubo drainage channel into a modern and high-standard infrastructure project.

In an official letter released today, President Museveni expressed his deep appreciation for Dr. Kiggundu’s commitment to urban transformation and flood mitigation in Kampala.

The Nakivubo Channel, a critical waterway that has long been plagued by clogging and poor maintenance—leading to severe flooding in the city—is set to undergo a major upgrade under this ambitious project.

President Museveni’s Recognition

The President highlighted Dr. Kiggundu’s patriotism and private-sector leadership, emphasising that such initiatives align perfectly with the government’s broader agenda of infrastructure development and public-private partnerships.

"Your efforts in transforming Nakivubo Channel demonstrate the spirit of self-reliance and innovation that Uganda needs. This project will not only improve drainage but also enhance the livelihoods of thousands of city dwellers," President Museveni stated in his letter.

Dr. Kiggundu’s Vision for Nakivubo.

Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, the founder of Ham Enterprises and a well-known advocate for youth empowerment and national development, has pledged to ensure the channel’s reconstruction meets international engineering standards.

The project is expected to incorporate modern drainage technology, reinforced concrete structures, and sustainable waste management systems to prevent future blockages.

"This is not just about construction; it’s about securing Kampala’s future against floods and environmental degradation. We are committed to delivering a lasting solution," Dr. Kiggundu remarked in response to the President’s commendation.

Why This Matters

-Flood Prevention. The Nakivubo Channel has been a major pain point, causing destructive floods in areas like Kisenyi, Nakawa, and the Industrial Belt during heavy rains.

- Economic Impact: Improved drainage will boost business activities and reduce losses caused by waterlogging.

- Public-Private Synergy: The project sets a precedent for private individuals contributing to national development without solely relying on government funding.

With the President’s endorsement, Dr. Kiggundu’s team is expected to fast-track the project, working closely with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure seamless execution.

President Museveni’s public appreciation of Dr. Hamis Kiggundu underscores the importance of collaborative nation-building As works commence, Ugandans will be watching closely, hopeful that this initiative will bring lasting relief to Kampala’s drainage woes.
