Minister Kabanda Urges Ugandans to Support Local Workers Over Foreign Labor

Minister Kabanda urges Ugandans to support local workers, emphasising the importance of allowing them to perform their duties effectively.

KAMPALA – The Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Minsa Kabanda, has called on Ugandans to prioritise local workers who have been given employment opportunities instead of mistreating them. She emphasised that these workers should be allowed to perform their duties effectively to gain valuable skills and experience.

Minister Kabanda made this appeal during her engagement with TURKISH INVESTORS as part of efforts to promote President Museveni’s "Buy Uganda, Build Uganda" (BUBU) initiative.
The Minister noted that some Ugandans tend to act arrogantly, believing they are more knowledgeable, which leads to poor work ethics and unprofessional behaviour.
She urged employers not to exploit these workers but instead to assess them based on their performance and skills rather than favouring foreign labour.
Meanwhile, Kafkas Murat, the Managing Director of Dr. Mattress Uganda, stated that his company is doing everything possible to empower Ugandan workers. Currently, they employ 40 Ugandans, with only three being non-Ugandans.
Murat explained that they source most of their raw materials locally, which is why they prefer Ugandan labour. He also praised the government for creating a favourable environment for business growth and economic development.
